Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and creativity across a variety of disciplines.

A core element of the Mermaiding Championships is the commitment to integration and inclusion. Regardless of age, gender, origin, or physical abilities, everyone is welcome to participate and share their passion for mermaiding.

The event fosters a strong sense of community and celebrates the diversity of the international mermaid and merman community.

The existing "Official Merlympics" will be restructured into two independent competition formats. This reorganization represents an important step toward further professionalizing the sport and establishing a clear distinction between national and international competitions.

The Mermaiding Nationals will be held as national championships within individual countries, with the goal of developing the sport at a regional level and specifically nurturing emerging talent. The Mermaiding Internationals will subsequently bring together the top athletes from different countries, providing an international platform at the highest performance level.

This new structure creates greater transparency and planning reliability for athletes, clubs, mermaiding and freediving schools, as well as private individuals and sponsors. At the same time, it maintains the high standards for which the Official Merlympics have already become known. In this way, we ensure that mermaiding can grow sustainably at both national and international levels worldwide.

The original “Merlympics” were founded by Normeth Preglo Parzhuber, Director of the IMSIA (International Mermaid Swimming Instructors Association). This competition for mermaids and mermen began in 2015 in Germany and has since gained great popularity and interest.

From the Merlympics in Germany to the Merlympics in England, the number of participants has continuously increased. At the previous Swiss Merlympics, even international teams gathered and traveled from the USA, Spain, France, and even Iran.

The original concept and goal of the Merlympics was to offer international mer-athletes an event where the best competitors from the national Merlympics could participate.

In June 2024, the concept of the Merlympics was handed over to Andrea Schneider, who set herself the goal of promoting the competition, the unique art, and the sport of mermaiding nationally and internationally. She also wanted to provide mermaids and mermen with opportunities to meet, make friends, compete, work as teams, and create lifelong “sea-memories.”

By 2025, Andrea Schneider had successfully achieved this and attracted significant international interest, with many countries requesting to host the same concept in their own nations.
